The Optimize Guys or Optimize G-U-Y-Z

Ok, here's a little story about what NOT to do when it comes to buying a domain and picking a business name.

The name, the "Optimize Guyz" was suggested to me and it seemed like a cool, fun, and easy to remember name to use. So we poked around the web, looked at the Secretary of State site for other related business names, we knew this one wasn't going to be taken.

On the web, there was one other company with a static image on OptimizeGuys.com. It was just a small .jpeg with the logo, or banner.. something in between. The Optimize Guys now has update their site as we started marketing locally and already we have had someone ask if that was us.

The second "Z" makes all the difference in the world! If you are looking at optimizeguys.com, jump off of it, and come to optimizeguyz.com. The Optimize Guys do not specificy where they are operating out of, but I can assure you it is not Central Minnesota, more specifically, the Brainerd Lakes Area. So when you are around town or just passing through, look up the Optimize Guys. Scratch that, look up the Optimize Guyz! See, I'm already confusing myself!

The Optimize Guyz is soon to be celebrating the FIRST birthday.

The OG team, which is based out of Central Minnesota, has had a busy first year. There has been setbacks, of course, but overall the year was a great success and many local businesses can vouch for that!

It is simply amazing being able to accomplish so much in one year especially from the heart of Minnesota. Thanks to Bruce Clay we were able to attend Search Engine Strategies in San Francisco. This was not only a humbling and eye opening experience, it solidified my position on the quality of work the Optimize Guyz does.

Brent Rangen, is not only a talented and highly skilled web guru, he also makes your new web site fun, easy, and cheap to maintain. You'll stand out in the search engines and he will do everything he can to help you maximize your potential.

Accomplishments - 2010:

1. OG Owner, Brent Rangen, Wins the Small Biz Discovery Contest hosted by Bruce Clay.
2. SEM Synergy Podcast Interviewee
3. Interviewed by SEO Hacker (social media expert).
4. Interviewed by StartSEOCompany.com podcast.
5. Successfully promoted 15 sites across the US, UK, and Canada.
6. Consulted for three major brands in the US and Canada.
7. Worked with a mid-level brand to set up a SEO department in-house.
8. Pulled in over 50 first page rankings and mid-high competitive SERPs.
9. 15 page one rankings over a one year campaign.
10. Hired three new SEO employees.

Web Design:

1. Created over ten custom wordpress websites ($700-$3,000).
2. Taught EACH company how to update their own website and leverage the features of WordPress' content management system.
3. Hired a full time WordPress developer.
4. Created five high quality landing pages for PPC (pro-bono for being long-term clients)
5. Created several Facebook squeeze pages for promotions.
6. Installed and modified eight WordPress and Joomla premium theme sites for clients with low budgets ($400-$600).
7. Hired a graphic designer for logo's and custom site mock-ups.

PPC Management:

1. Switched PPC management providers.
2. Tripled the number of PPC clients in 2010.
3. Solidified stance of necessity: landing pages, conversion tracking, and weekly minimum search query reports.

Summary:

We hope 2011 is even better than 2010 but would be very happy with a repeat! Thanks to everyone who has worked with us this past year.
